German journalists explore Belfast

Tourism Ireland highlights new Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Belfast

Tourism Ireland in Germany invited six top travel journalists to Belfast at the weekend – as part of its drive to highlight Lufthansa’s new direct flight from Frankfurt to Belfast City Airport.

The journalists – all based in the Frankfurt area – write for leading daily regional newspapers, weekend supplements and a lifestyle magazine, with a combined audience of 845,000 readers, as well as an online lifestyle magazine which has over 63,000 followers on Instagram. Their itinerary was designed by Tourism NI.

The group enjoyed a ‘Belfast by the Glass’ tour by Taste and Tour NI, a coach tour of Belfast and a stop at St George’s Market, as well as a guided tour of Titanic Belfast and the Maritime Mile. They also had some free time to explore some of the city’s other attractions, including Belfast City Hall and the Titanic and Linen Quarters.

Nadine Lehmann, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Germany, said: “The new Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Belfast City Airport is really good news for tourism to Northern Ireland in 2023. We were delighted to invite this group of journalists to fly to Belfast and sample some of the many great attractions and experiences the city has to offer German holidaymakers. Their articles and content will reach over 900,000 Germans, inspiring them to use the new flight and come and visit Northern Ireland.

“As an island destination, we know the importance of direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated; there’s a proven correlation between access and growth in visitor numbers, so this new flight will certainly help boost tourism business to Northern Ireland from Germany. Tourism Ireland is committed to working with Lufthansa, Belfast City Airport and our other key partners, to drive demand for this new flight.”

Germany is an important market for tourism to Northern Ireland. In 2019, we welcomed almost 65,000 German visitors, whose visits delivered almost £14 million for the economy.
