The Malone is the perfect base for exploring the area. A short walk will take you to Queen’s University, one of Belfast’s architectural landmarks, the tranquil Botanic Gardens with its Palm House and Tropical Ravine, and the award-winning Ulster Museum.

With multiple art and history galleries as well as natural science zones, the museum is one of Belfast’s top attractions. From 12 to 23 February, it will host several Northern Ireland Science Festival events and also runs special late-night events.

The Queen’s Quarter is also home to the multi-award-winning Lyric Theatre, which produces original work as well as hosting visiting artists and productions. An important part of Belfast’s cultural history, it launched the careers of many stars including Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt and has championed local writing and performing talent.

Its eclectic programme spans drama, comedy, music, dance, poetry and storytelling. Highlights of the spring programme include a brand-new musical adaptation of the children’s classic, The Velveteen Rabbit (14 to 30 March), an engrossing psychological drama, Our New Girl (8 April–4 May), and Lyric Drama Studio’s production of Jessica Swale’s Nell Gwynn (30 Apr – 10 May).
