Getting your motor running at the North West 200
The North West 200 (5–10 May) is one of the world’s toughest and fastest motorcycle road races attracting the sport’s top racers to the famous circuit on Northern Ireland’s beautiful Causeway Coast.
First run almost 100 years ago, the mass start event turns an 8.9 mile ‘triangle’ of public roads linking the holiday towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine into a unique high-speed circuit.

Known for its friendly vibe and relaxed atmosphere, the North West 200 combines the thrill of high-speed racing with a hugely entertaining Race Week Festival programme of family-friendly entertainment.
Festival goers can fully immerse themselves in the colourful sights, sounds and smells of a contemporary motorcycle racing paddock getting up close to the world’s best racing personalities and teams. On the Wednesday and Thursday before the big race day, fans can watch their biking heroes during practice sessions and on Friday can enjoy the Meet the Riders event in Coleraine town centre.
There will be comedy and music shows in the Entertainment Marquee, a vintage classic car display and a special exhibition of motorbiking memorabilia at Ballymoney Museum.
Saturday’s main race day will feature two Superbike and two Supertwin races plus Superstock and Supersport events. With five different ticketed grandstand locations and great vantage points all around the circuit, the races are a thrilling spectator event.

Those travelling to the Causeway Coast for the North West 200 will find a great range of accommodation and eateries in the area. Luxury lovers will adore the five-star Dunluce Lodge which overlooks Royal Portrush golf course while those who prefer a town centre location should check out the stylish Elephant Rock or the family-run Port Hotel, both in Portrush.
Restaurants range from the fine dining on offer at Eighteen Ninety Four to superb Atlantic seafood with a great beach view at Harry’s Shack, both in Portstewart. The Ramore restaurants in Portrush offer seven different menu styles from pub grub to Indian cuisine ensuring all tastes are catered for.

The Causeway Coast also has some of Northern Ireland’s top attractions. The Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge are all a short distance from the three North West 200 race towns and are must-see sights on a visit to the area.
